Catch the Poetry Postie on her rounds where she may have a poetry postcard, lyrical letter or singing telegram for you. Pick out a package or jump on the bike, ring the bell and be entertained by the Poetry Postie herself!
Poetry Postie delivers poetic inspiration to the Nation with her colourful, quirky, interactive performances and inspires whole communities to explore the notion of communication – communicating with oneself ( something poetry helps one to do, ) with those close to you and those further away. It gets communities communicating, allowing them to discover the poetic heart of themselves. The projects aim to raise aspirations and show everyone that there is a big world out there – one that they can forge a link with. To remind us, through poetry, that that underneath it all we are all part of one community – the world.
The Poetry Postie was recently invited by the Universal Postal Union to deliver poetic inspiration to the UN for their 70th year celebrations at the Palais de Nations in Geneva and has been working on a series of international events, performances and educational/community workshops that resulted in celebratory events for World Post Day and National Poetry Day.
Those taking part were inspired to create poetry postcards, lyrical letters, Sing-o-Grams and Peace Parcels to be included in the Poetry Postie’s post bag and delivered to members of each community. The project also involved an exciting cultural exchange in Japan where an international poetry pen pal scheme was created with UNESCO prize winning poet Hiroshi Taniuchi. The project has now been funded to extend into a full Postal Service of Happiness which will be launched on the International Day of Happiness ( March 20th 2017. ) If you would like to know more about this project or get involved before then, do get in touch.
